Transportation & Travel
The Plattsburgh-Lake Champlain region is well connected, by almost every mode of transportation and travel.
Interstate 87 runs north and south through Plattsburgh, connecting with other Interstates just a couple of hours south, and with major Canadian highways just to the north.
Air access is abundant and getting even better! We are served by three major airports - Plattsburgh International right here, and Burlington and Trudeau about one hour's drive away.
- PLATTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
- TRUDEAU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, MONTREAL
- BURLINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, BURLINGTON
With these three airports, you have a variety of choices and ready access to almost every part of North America and the world.
Indeed, PLATTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, created from the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base, is quickly developing as a major secondary airport for Montreal, with new services developing each year.
As for rail, we are on the mainline of the Canadian Pacific Railway between Montreal and New York City, which includes daily Amtrak service in both directions.
And for good measure, you can go into Montreal next door and connect with rail service across Canada and even cruise ships out of the Port of Montreal.
Or you can take your pleasure boat all the way down the Hudson River and beyond via Lake Champlain and the Champlain Canal, or all the way up the St. Lawrence River in Quebec via the Chambly Canal.
